Natural Editorial Portrait Photography in Our Sydney Studio

In Her Own Light

Natural Editorial Portrait Photography in Our Sydney Studio

We recently spent some time in the studio working on a natural, editorial-style portrait shoot.

Keeping the setup simple, we worked with a whitewashed wall, natural expressions and the interplay of light and shadow to create a series of clean, understated images.

The direction was relaxed, allowing us to experiment with framing and lighting while capturing moments that felt natural rather than overly posed.

In the Making

Working with Light and Shadow

The lighting played an important part in the look of this shoot. We embraced the shadows falling across the wall and subject, adding depth and contrast while keeping the overall feel soft and minimal.

It’s always interesting to see how small changes in light, positioning and composition can shape an image, particularly when working with a simple backdrop.

Keeping Things Natural

We wanted the portraits to feel effortless, with room for genuine expressions and the little moments that happen between shots.

Rather than overcomplicating the setup, we focused on the subject, the light and finding compositions that felt right as the shoot progressed.

Alongside the portraits, we captured some behind-the-scenes moments to share a little of the process and what goes on in the studio.

At Virtue Creative Studios, we enjoy exploring different approaches to portrait and editorial photography, creating imagery that feels considered, natural and true to the subject.
